US Winter wheat outlook
USDA estimated area seeded to winter wheat last autumn (for harvest this summer) totaled 37 million acres compared to the 33 million acres sown in the fall of 2021. The 2023 winter wheat crop was in poor to fair condition as of mid January 2023. We project next summer’s winter wheat crop at 1.32 billion bushels compared to the 1.1 billion bushel crop in 2022. Production prospects could charge markedly as US winter wheat yield is sensitive to early spring weather.
