US Soybean Export Commitments Up from a year ago but small compared to most Recent Years
US unshipped soybean export commitments totaled 242 million bushels in Mid March, an improvement compared to a year ago, but on the small side compared to most recent years. Importers, especially China, expect plentiful South American supplies from the 2025 soybean crop now being harvested.
However, US soybean product sales have been brisk with both soybean oil and meal export sales strong. Likely attractive prices have boosted sales as much as a major shift in soy product demand.
US soybean crushers have gotten along this season with just ordinary margins. Abundant domestic soybean supplies and strong product demand could increase margins in the spring and summer period. But the days of $3+ per bushel margins are likely past.
