US Corn Feed Use

Published by David Tedrow on

Corn feed use may be moderately stronger than USDA assumed in the March WASDE report. USDA estimates grain consuming animal units (GCAU) will average a two percent increase in 2019/2020 which points to a 300 million bushel plus increase in corn feed usage compared to the USDA’s 95 million bushel increase.

Corn feed usage is more  a function of price than a driving force in the  market. Industrial use, exports, and production in season. are less elastic in the short run and therefore  more likely to be dominant market forces. Still an increase in feed usage could help stabilize a wobbly corn market.
