US corn crop on course to make USDA June Forecast – 06/21/2022

Published by David Tedrow on

USDA rated 70% of the US corn crop in good or excellent condition as of  6/19/2022 which is modestly above average. Data for the years 1988 through 2021 would suggest a national average yield of 181 bushels per harvested acre which is equal to the forecast published by USDA in the June WASDE report. Corn production prospects could change radically over the next five weeks when the majority of the Midwest corn crop goes through the pollination period. The correlation between corn yield and the national corn crop index increases from 27% in late June to more than 85% by the end of July.
