Modest Increase in US Wheat Planted Area Forecast from March Survey 04/02/2022
USDA estimates a 700 thousand acre increase in area planted to wheat this year, but area harvested will likely increase by nearly double planted area because a poor season greatly reduced spring wheat area harvested in 2021. We have worked through the data and displayed the trend (except for plantings) forecasts published by USDA in February and March. Note that an average season in terms of weather and demand would result in another tight US wheat supply/demand balance in the June 2022/May 2023 crop year.
The USDA will begin publishing winter wheat crop condition reports next week and spring wheat reports next month. The weekly reports will help analysts refine the new crop wheat production outlook.
