March Corn Planted Estimate – 03/31/2023
USDA’s March planting survey found USS farmers intending to plant 92 million acres to corn this season compared to 89.5 million acres in 2022. We have estimated trend yield at 180 bushels and a trend yield 2023 corn crop at 14.9 billion bushels. The comparative data is displayed in the accompanying table.
It has been some time since the US suffered a really short corn crop (2012) or the Corn Belt experienced outstanding summer weather (2016). The record US corn yield was established in 2021 with average weather conditions which is evidence the long term uptrend in US corn yield is intact.
