June Hogs and Pigs Report 06/24/2021
USDA reported the June 1 US hog inventory at 75.7 million head compared to 77.4 million head a year ago. The March/May pig crop was down 3% as the number of sows farrowing declined slightly less than 3% and the number of pigs saved per litter declined marginally. It appears the rapid growth in pigs produced per litter has reached its peak at least for the time being.
We forecast FIS barrow & gilt slaughter over the next six months (June/November) will total 65.7 million head compared to 67.5 million head a year ago or a 3% year over year reduction.
