Cattle Placements fall Short of Marketings in May – 06/24/2022

Feedlots placed fewer feeder cattle than finished cattle marketed last month, but total cattle on feed June 1 still exceeded that of any previous year. We project finished cattle sales in the June/December 2022 period will increase 2% on a year over year basis. A normal seasonal July/December price range for December live cattle is $135 to $155, but plentiful finished cattle supplies will likely trim the standard deviation of $5 from the seasonal projection or an adjusted $130 to $150 per hundredweight forecast.
