Cattle on Feed Down Modestly From A Year Ago – 11/19/2021

Published by David Tedrow on

USDA reported the number of cattle in US feedlots on November 1, 2021 was down fractionally  from a year ago. Finished cattle sales declined last month while October 2021 feeder cattle placements increased from levels in the corresponding month in 2020.

Our model has finished cattle marketings in the November 2021 through April 2022 period declining about 2% from sales in the same period in 2020/2021. Strong demand for edible beef and by-products could result  in February 2022 live cattle futures challenging the old highs near $140/cwt.
