Cattle on feed at record level – 03/03/2021

We estimate the number of cattle on feed March 1 at 12 million head, up fractionally from the record established for the date  in 2006. Placements may have dropped one percent in February while we estimate marketings declined 6 percent year over year.

Ample fed cattle supplies will likely weigh on live cattle prices for the reminder of the spring.
